Cell Phones

Posted by admin on Wednesday Dec 2, 2009 Under Entertainment, Tips & Tricks

Do you really want to be available for anyone and everyone on a 24/7 basis? What do I mean? A famous person once said that the more available you make yourself; the more available everyone will expect you to be. People will actually be annoyed if you are not instantly and constantly available rather than being pleased when you do call. People expecting you to be available all the time may be annoying. Cell phone calls follow you everywhere you are including your bathroom. Even during nighttime when you want to rest, cell phones continue to ring and annoy you. If it is important, no problem but if it is very menial, why you need to be bothered so late. Today in this modern society, we live in and the proliferation of cell phones we see people talking anywhere and everywhere. If used for business, this may prove to be very effective and worthy. However, for very menial issues being bothered in your sleep and even during your bathroom time may be quite annoying if not outright disgusting. However, if you make yourself available all the time, you created your own nightmare. Cell phone etiquette is getting to be a forgotten concept. You will see people talking on the phone loudly and disturbs people nearby in restaurants and even in offices. I am sure by now, once or twice in a meeting you will notice that when a cell phone rings, almost everyone around will immediately look for their cell phones. If you were the one talking, and then the person in front of you talks on his phone, how would you feel? I am sure you will feel belittled and ignored. Rude practice, and should be changed. It may help people who use cell phones to follow certain degree of etiquette with respect to the use of cell phones specially in places where you may seem rude if you use or even when your cell phone rings. When you are in a place of worship, it may be necessary to leave your cell phone in the house or at least turn it off if you do not want to be away with it. This is because ringing cell phone will not just disturb you while you pray it will also disturb others. You do not need to show off your expensive gadget in a place of worship. During meetings, please turn off your cell phone; it is rude to have your phone ringing while somebody speaks. Disruption may cause problems especially when the meeting tackles extremely important issues. However, if you are waiting for terribly important call, you may use the vibrate mode of your cell phone to alert you when a call is in-coming and leave the meeting if you need to answer the call. You may also inform the possible caller that you are in a meeting and that you cannot be disturbed. When traveling and if you are on-board an aircraft, you will be required to turn off your phone. This is because electronics devices may interfere with the aircraft’s avionics. Thus, it is a requirement to turn of your phone for safety reasons.

However, for extremely long flights, airline companies allow cell phone usage at a certain time, if you really need to make a phone call, use this time allotted if necessary. Cell phone have become to be a necessity nowadays, that is why most people use it and cell phone manufacturers have continuously develop different usage and functions for this very small gadget. Be globally competitive, but you should understand that being rude is not part of modernity. Follow certain degree of etiquette; this will be very helpful to you and your business.

Ten Tips to a Better Song

Posted by admin on Saturday Nov 21, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

If you are getting ready to step into a studio to record, make sure that you start thinking before you ever put foot close to the microphone.  While recording has allowed for new wonders and expectations to be met with music, there is still the need to do some old fashioned needs to make sure that your songs are worth the extra track.  Following are ten tips that you can remember to make sure you have the arrangement correct before you begin recording.

1.Balance.  Is your instrumentation balanced?  You should have an even amount of ranges, from low to high.  If you have too much of one and not enough of another, your recording might not sound so great.

2.Harmonies.  You want to make sure that there is some good support going into the melody of your song.  Without the right harmonies, or alternative sounds to the melody, it will sound like your song is missing a piece of the puzzle.

3.Musical arrangement.  This is based completely around the ability to organize the instrumentation in the song.  Not only should it be balanced, but it should also include contrasts and similarities in how the music follows what you are trying to say.  If you are stuck with creating instrumentation that fits, get into some basic theory concepts to assist you.

4.Spacing.  More important than all of the melodies and harmonies, is the room that you put in between each.  This means that you don’t want to rush through your song and you don’t want to take too much time.  Make sure that you give some breaks with melodies and change up the harmonies enough to keep it interesting and moving correctly.

5.Tempo.  Often times, it is assumed that there is a specific tempo and that is it. However, you want to make sure that your tempos are defined and everyone follows them without missing a beat.  Once you get into the studio, you don’t want anything to be off by a second, as it will cause the recording to become difficult to lay down.

6.Form.  The easiest way for a listener to relate to your song from the beginning is to have the right form.  If you are focused on lyrics, this will be the hook that is used during the chorus.  If you are experimenting with form, make sure there is always a place in the music that goes back and keeps the attention of the listener so that they can relate to the music.

7.Variety.  One of the overlooked parts of arranging is the variety that is in the song. This means that, even though you are repeating choruses or verses, make sure that you have some different movement or instrumentation in your recording.

8.Movement.  The movement of the song goes beyond the tempo and into the extra small things that you do with a recording.  This is what will make or break a song. Things such as louds and softs, ornamentation and other small add ons will help to move the song in the right way.

9.Consistency.  Along with the variety of the song should be a certain consistency that lets the song fit together.  This partly is related to the form of the song and also links to things such as tying the song together with the right lyrics and musical concepts. Within each of these areas, you can have some variation, but make sure that the frame work allows the listener to follow what you are doing.

10.Creativity.  Of course, this should never be left behind.  All too often are musical ideas that are heard that are close to what was heard before.  The first rule to a good song is always to let yourself go, follow your creativity and to let the rest fall into place.

With these simple tricks are ways that you can improve your song and get it recording ready.  From this, you will be able to make sure that your songs and pieces are polished, stand out from the crowd and get your voice heard among other musicians.

Planning Your Thanksgiving Party on a Budget

Posted by admin on Thursday Oct 15, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

Are you hosting a Thanksgiving party this year?  If so, how much do you intend to spend on your party?  Unfortunately, a large number of party hosts do not have as much money to spend on their party as they wish they had.  While this may make you want to change your mind, about hosting a Thanksgiving party, it doesn’t have to. There are a number of different ways that you can go about planning a memorable Thanksgiving party while on a budget.

One of the best ways to plan a Thanksgiving party on a budget is to develop a plan for everything. You will want to plan what types of foods you would like to serve at your party, how many guests you would like to invite, and what forms of entertainment you would like to have on hand.  Making a detailed list of everything mentioned above is the best way to determine how much money you could expect to pay for everything that you want.  Now, it is important to remember that what you could expect to pay might not necessarily be what you could afford to pay; that is where the budgeting comes in.

After you have created a list of what you need to purchase, including food and other party supplies, you will need to determine exactly how much money you have to spend on your Thanksgiving party.  If you notice a difference between what you want to spend and what you have to spend, you may find that you need to cut a few corners.  While it is nice to have the Thanksgiving party of your dreams, you will not want to go broke while doing so. If you eliminate a certain type of food or a number of guests, to cut down your costs, you may easily be able to add them back on, depending on how much money you save when shopping for all of your needed Thanksgiving party supplies.

If you want to save money, when purchasing the supplies needed for your Thanksgiving party, as you likely do, there are number of different steps that you can take to make that happen.  Perhaps, the most important step to take is buying your food whenever you see it on sale, especially if you need to have a large amount of food.  Whether your party includes snacks or a full fledge Thanksgiving dinner, you can save yourself a fairly large amount of money by purchasing your food or drinks while they are on sale.  Typically, in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, you will find that many grocery stores lower the prices on their most popular Thanksgiving foods and cooking supplies.  This may be the best time to get your shopping done.

Since a party really isn’t complete without decorations, you may wish to purchase party decorations for your home.  For the largest selection of Thanksgiving decorations, it is advised that you purchase your decorations as soon as they hit the store shelves.  Unfortunately, it seems as if many retail stores skip Thanksgiving and jump right to Christmas.  This means that many retail stores are limited on the number of Thanksgiving decorations they carry and when they are gone, they are often gone.  For the most affordable Thanksgiving decorations, you are advised to shop at discount stores, dollar stores, and department stores.  However, since there is a good chance that thousands of other shoppers are looking to get the same deals as you, it is important that you act fast, while you still have the chance.
Along the lines of Thanksgiving party decorations is party seating.  Whether you are hosting a formal Thanksgiving party, complete with a sit-down dinner, or just a casual party, there is a good chance that you may need extra chairs and tables. Your first impulse may be to buy them yourself, but you can save money by renting extra furniture from one of your local rental stores, particularly a party rental store.  You can also get extra tables and chairs, for free, by asking those that you know if they have any seating arrangements that you could borrow.

The tips mentioned above are just a few of the many ways that you can plan a Thanksgiving party on a budget.  With the right amount of planning, it may be a well-kept secret that your party was not only easy to plan, but easy to afford.

Planning an Adult Thanksgiving Party

Posted by admin on Monday Oct 12, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

Have you recently made the decision to host a Thanksgiving party?  If so, have you decided on which type of party you would like to have?  If you are looking for a nice way to celebrate Thanksgiving with other adults, namely your friends, you may be interested in hosting an adult only Thanksgiving party. An adult only Thanksgiving party may not only be a little bit easier for you to plan, but it is a party that your guests will likely enjoy attending.

When it comes to planning an adult only Thanksgiving party, as previously mentioned, the planning is a little bit easier than the planning associated with a children’s party or a party that is for individuals of all ages.  Despite the fact that it may be easier to plan an adult only Thanksgiving party, you will still find that there is a fairly large amount of planning and preparation that is needed. In most cases, you will find that the sooner you start planning your adult only Thanksgiving party, the sooner you can start to enjoy yourself.

As with all other parties, including Thanksgiving parties, it is important that you invite your guests. In fact, before you start planning the rest of your Thanksgiving party, it is advised that you invite your guests first. Thanksgiving, as well as the rest of the holiday season, is a busy time.  You will want to give your guests their invites early, preferably at least a month in advance. An early invite will help to ensure that your guests do not make other plans for that day or evening.  It is also advised that you inform your guests, on their invitation, of your party status.  Unless your Thanksgiving party guests know that your party has an adult only theme, they may bring their children along with them.

After you have started inviting your guests, or at least made a guest list, you can begin to start planning and preparing for the rest of your Thanksgiving party. One of the first things that you will want to do is decide what type of food, drinks, or snacks that you want to serve. Since you are having an adult only party, it may be a good idea to have alcoholic beverages on hand.  It is not required that you serve alcohol at your Thanksgiving party, but you will likely find that most of your guests expect you to.  In addition to whether or not you want to serve alcohol at your party, you will also need to decide whether or not you want your party to include dinner.  If not, a wide array of snacks should be more than enough.

Although we often associate party games with children, there are many adults who enjoy playing party games.  Party games are a great source of entertainment for any party, including an adults’ only party.  Online, you should easily be able to find a number of adult themed party games.  You can find these ideas with a standard internet search.  In addition to using the internet, you can also find a collection of party games at many of your local retail stores.  While these games will likely not have a focus on Thanksgiving, you and your party guests may still enjoy playing them.

It may also be a good idea to decide where, in your home, your Thanksgiving party will take place.  Many party hosts have their parties in more than one room, but the decision is completely yours to make. Many Thanksgiving parties take place in the kitchen, dinning room, family room, den, or living room.  In addition to preparing your rooms for your party, by cleaning them, you can also decide how you would like them decorated.  Any party, including a Thanksgiving party, isn’t complete without a little bit of festive spirit; spirit that Thanksgiving party decorations generate.

As you can see, there is still a fairly large amount of planning that goes into hosting an adult only Thanksgiving party. Despite all of the planning and preparation that is needed, you will likely be pleased with your decision to host a party for your family, friends, and anyone else who you choose to invite.

Planning a Kids’ Thanksgiving Party

Posted by admin on Saturday Oct 10, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

Have you decided that you would like to host a Thanksgiving party this year?  If so, what type of Thanksgiving party do you plan on having?  If you are a parent, there is a good chance that your Thanksgiving party may be designed for children and children alone. These types of Thanksgiving parties are often referred to as kids’ only Thanksgiving parties.

Although you might assume that it is relatively easy to host a kids’ only Thanksgiving party, you may soon realize that it isn’t as easy as you may think. The reason for that, most of the time, is that kids are often more difficult to please, when compared to adults. For that reason, there is a fairly large amount of planning and preparation that may need to go into your next Thanksgiving party.

Perhaps, the first thing that you should do, when planning a kids’ only Thanksgiving party, is invite the guests. Depending on the age of your own child or children, this may be a little bit difficult.  Some young children and teenagers may be able to invite their own party guests, but others may be unable to. Whether your child is a toddler or a little bit older, if may be a good idea if you create a Thanksgiving party guest list all on your own.  When doing so, it is advised that you invite children that are around the same age as your own. It may be a good idea to invite other children that are in your child’s class, attend the same daycare, live in the same neighborhood, or are related to your child.

Once you have taken care of the party invites, you may want to change your focus a little bit.  You will want to start focusing on the actual party.  One of the many things that you may want to plan out is the food, snacks, and drinks that you will have available.  In most cases, you will find that you do not need to go all out and cook a Thanksgiving dinner for a kids’ only party; snacks would be more than enough.  However, as a parent, you likely already know that kids can be picky when it comes to their food. That is why you are advised to have a wide array of snacks and drinks on hand.  You will not only want to make sure that, at least, some of your foods are healthy, but also that they are kid friendly.

Whether it is a Thanksgiving party, a Christmas party, or a birthday party, kids’ parties are nothing without games. That is why you will want to pick out party games for everyone to play.  Since you will be hosting a Thanksgiving party for kids, you may want to choose holiday games to play; however, it is not necessary. You can easily find a number of holiday party game ideas online, with a standard internet search. In addition to the internet, you should also be able to purchase a number of fun, kid friendly party games online or from your local department store.  While it is fun to have your party games all planned out and ready to go, be sure to leave room for suggestions. Depending on the age of your party guests, there is a good chance that they may want to play other games or offer their own suggestions.

When planning a kids’ only Thanksgiving party, it is important to remember one thing; kids may not be your only guests. As a parent, you likely know how some parents, maybe even you, just don’t want to part with their children, even for a few hours.  That is why there is a good chance that some of your party guests’ parents may wish to stay.  If this is the case, you should let them.  In addition to receiving assistance with your kids’ only Thanksgiving party, there is a good chance that you may enjoy the extra company. If other parents will be staying with their kids, it is advised that you also have a few adult snacks on hand.

Inviting Your Guests to Thanksgiving Party

Posted by admin on Thursday Oct 8, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

Around the holidays, a large number of individuals make the decision to host a holiday party.  Are you looking to be one of those individuals? If so, there is a good chance that you may be interested in planning a Thanksgiving party. If you want to plan a Thanksgiving party, have you started planning yet?  If not, it may be time to get started. You will find that the sooner you get your party planning started, the sooner you can start to invite your guest.

Speaking of your Thanksgiving party guests, have you decided on a way to invite them yet?  When it comes to inviting your party guests, you will find that you have a number of different options.  In fact, you have so many options that you may be wondering which invite method you should use. When it comes to inviting guests to your Thanksgiving party, while you might not necessarily think so, how choose to invite your guest may reflect on yourself, as well as your party.  Perhaps, the best way to decide is to consider the advantages and disadvantages of each.

When it comes to inviting guests to any party, including a Thanksgiving party, many party hosts use official invitations.  When it comes to sending out formal invitations, you can either make your own, often right on your computer, or you can buy a package of invitations from your local party supply store or department store. Formal invitations are a great way to keep track of your invites and they are, almost always, preferred by guests. It is hard to explain, but there is just something about receiving a party invite in the mail.  Really, the only downside to formal Thanksgiving party invitations is that they cost money; however, you can purchase low-cost invitations or, as previously mentioned, make your own.

As previously mentioned, many party guests enjoy receiving invitations in the mail.  If you would like to send a personal invite, but you do not want to spend the money on invitations or make your own, you can send quick note.  Simply by writing down the date, time, and location of your Thanksgiving party is a great way to send an invite to one or all of your party guests. Although invitation may be nice, sending a personal, handwritten note is a cheap way to send a personal invite.  It may also be a good idea to send a quick message along with that note. Simply asking a friend or relative how their life is going is a great way to turn a simple handwritten invitation into so much more.

As much as guests like getting something in the mail, you might not have the time or the money to do so.  Luckily, you still have a number of different options. If you wish, you could call each of your party guests and personally invite them to your party. What is nice about this method of inviting your guests is that it is extremely personal, even more personally than sending something in the mail.  The only downside, to inviting your Thanksgiving party guests with a phone call, is that it may be time consuming.

If you are looking for an easy, convenient, and free way to invite all of your guests to your Thanksgiving party, you may want to give email some thought.  If you know the email address of all of your party guests, you could easily send one large email to everyone. You will want to be sure and include everything that a regular invitation would include, such as the date, time, and location of your party. In addition to a traditional email, you may also be able to find free, online invitations.  These invitations would be a great personal touch to your email party invitations.

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter how you invite your guests, as long as you do extend them an invitation. Your Thanksgiving party would be nothing without your guests, so make sure you get those invitations out, particularly in advance.

Barbecue Birthday Party

Posted by admin on Monday Sep 7, 2009 Under Tips & Tricks

Grown ups deserve to celebrate their birthdays too. Birthdays are after all a celebration of life and one more year on the planet. It makes sense however, that grown ups would like a little something more substantial than the typical cake and ice cream and childish fantasy theme for their celebrations. This doesn’t mean that grown ups have forgotten their fantasies however and this leaves a lot of room for interpretation on the theme of barbecues when it comes to a great birthday celebration.

You can go the Cowboy way when it comes to a birthday party barbecue and throw a shindig that would make old “W” proud. Texas sized ribs, hamburgers, steaks, hot dogs, and country music for all. Be sure to wear your cowboy boots and have gingham table clothes for this event that should be a family friendly way to go. Don’t forget to bring all the “fixin’s” or ask the guests to pitch in their best dishes in true southern tradition. This is a great way to go for those with big families that want nothing more than an excuse to celebrate their lives together.

If the cowboy way doesn’t exactly ring all your bells and whistles there is always the notion of a Caribbean barbecue. This is a party that would make Jimmy Buffett proud. Speaking of Buffett it’s probably a good idea to bring some of his music along to set the tone and there are plenty of other Caribbean or island inspired musicians to get you through the evening. Caribbean Jerk is a great rub or sauce for the chicken or fish you throw on the grill and you can make do with other traditional Caribbean fare for your dining pleasure and that of your guests.

You could also go the humorous route for your big day and go the redneck barbecue birthday party route. You will want to use cheap paper plates, cheap plastic furniture, a metal tub filled with ice and RC Cola ®, plastic forks and knives (the Sunday best of course), and typical redneck food such as pigs in blanket, gumbo, fried chicken, and potato salad. This can be a really fun party if all the guests get into the festivities and dress and act the part. It is definitely a barbecue that will be remembered, and talked about.

One of the favorite types of barbecues for a birthday bash however, is the Luau. There is something about those Hawaiians that really know how to do a barbecue the right way from the very beginning. Decorations should be island and tropical in nature. Be sure to use coconut cups for drinks and have plenty of Spam on hand (it’s a delicacy there)! You will also want to be sure to have plenty of leis for all your guests and grass skirts, hula music, and plenty of loud Hawaiian shirts for the duration. In fact, a Hawaiian shirt contest (for the loudest of course) is almost a pre requisite.

A barbecue is a great way to bring friends and family together to celebrate birthdays. If you are a little lost as to what to do to celebrate your grown up birthday or that of a loved one, try one of the ideas above or choose your own unique spin on the theme of a barbecue.
